Quite simply, a balanced diet is one that provides our bodies with all the right nutrients, in the right amounts in order to function properly. Our job is to help all our customers achieve this balance by providing the right foods and the information our customers need to make the right choices. It is our ambition within You & Life to become leaders in championing the choice of food and drink on sound nutritional principles.
Different foods contain different nutrients, and no one food contains all the nutrients our bodies need. This means that we need to eat a wide variety of foods in the right amounts to achieve a healthy balance.
Achieving this healthy balance does not mean giving up favourite treats- we just need to be aware of the types of foods that should be eaten in moderation and the foods that are valuable sources of important nutrients that should be eaten more regularly.
We base our healthy eating principles on those of the government and follow their advice and guidance on what constitutes a healthy diet and we join in with government-based voluntary best practices.
For example meeting sugar reduction targets, or meeting any specific mandatory nutrition standards including School Food Standards. Our team of dietitians are all registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and are members of the British Dietetic Association.
Nutrition is a constantly evolving area and we are continuously gaining new insights into the links between food, health and wellbeing. At Elior we keep our ear to the ground and monitor newly emerging healthy eating trends or growing movements in the sphere of health and wellbeing and have included some of these messages that may differ from current government advice in the Eatwell Guide section of this website. Please note that this is intended to inform you about alternative nutrition viewpoints and does not constitute medical advice.
